Week 47 - Thank You Everyone!

I just wanted to say thank you for all the birthday wishes this week! I loved reading all of them, and I really felt a lot of love that I needed :) I love you all! I am so grateful for your kindness and updates. I hope all of your days were as awesome as mine!

This week, we did a lot of service - clearing branches, making tarts, helping everyone in every way possible. This was really fun, because doing service is kind of like a game here - nobody wants you to do it because they feel bad making the missionaries work, so you just have to go for it the moment you see something that needs to be done. It was awesome! We're getting much better at "just serving".

We also were able to help one of our amies with a slight mental handicap this week. He understands both french and tahitian, but he has been having trouble really learning and retaining the things we teach him. Finally, we started teaching in mostly tahitian, and he was able to understand the things we were saying! We taught him about our identities as spirit children of God, where we come from, and why we're here on earth - and then, slowly but surely, we taught a separate lesson about what happens after this life. The miracle was that he UNDERSTOOD! He loved the things we taught, and was able to understand and restate the things we taught. The light in his face was a confirmation that he understood and that the Spirit was teaching him the things he needed to know. He was so excited that he could tell us, "I get it!"

For the Three Months of Joy this week, I read Nephi 22. I LOVE this chapter - there's so much rejoicing in it, and it's so wonderful to read. It's short - go read it :) Also, I understood the Isaiah chapters in my reading this time! It was incredible. I'm so grateful for the Spirit teaching me the incredible things I needed to know this week through my reading.

This week, we're reading from Jacob 4 to Mosiah 8. Faaitoito, everyone! The Book of Mormon is such a blessing for us in this life. Wow.

Tons of love from across the Pacific,
Soeur Sperry
