Wow. What a crazy couple of weeks! In the past week, I have had three different companions - we started with Soeur Winder, but she went back to Tahiti. For the next three days, I waited with the Sisters in the secteur next to ours and we did two secteurs for three days. Then, my new companion Soeur Boseman got here! And we've been killing it ever since :)
This is not the first time that Soeur Boseman and I have been together - we started at the same time, and were in the MTC together! So, we finish at the same time, which means I probably won't be staying here in Raiatea until the end... But, Soeur Boseman might! #jealous
Soeur Winder, Soeur Winder's companion before me, and the Elders before them all knew how to play piano, and it's been a long time that missionaries have been playing piano in this ward. Now, my companion doesn't know how to play and I can only really play with one hand, but I played in sacrament meeting yesterday! It wasn't too beautiful or anything, but after playing the sacrament hymn, I took the sacrament and prayed a little prayer of gratitude. Before my mission, I could have played, but I would've grumbled about it. I would've criticized my playing, and I would've stressed myself out about the whole thing. And here I am, and I simply did my best, gave what I could for that little moment that I was asked to play, and did my part. It was not a phenomenal performance, it wasn't out of the ordinary. But I felt fulfilled.
I don't know if you all see the metaphor there, but I do. :) Missions are life changing. Being near the end is just confirming that truth.
(My two companions for three days this week. We had a party! I love them - Soeur Whitehouse has the white helmet, she's from Washington, and Soeur Bryant in the blue from California.)
(Traditional tahitian food, made in a tahitian oven! Those are just racks of meat - cow and pig, pig and cow. And, if you look close, you'll notice the bananas.)
(A last picture of Soeur Winder for a while! This was us on Christmas. She's now killing it in Papeete on the main island.)
I'll send a picture of Soeur Boseman soon! If not, you can just look back to our emails from the MTC. She's the blonde one :)
Tons of love from across the Pacific,
Soeur Sperry
